What is a business plan?

There’s a wise saying: “If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.” It applies to many situations in life, including starting a business. Launching your own business is such a big, important project that it’s especially important for you to have a plan. I encourage the people I work with to begin with a 90-Day Action Plan. Your plan should be specific to your interests, desires and objectives, so it’s crucially important to formulate a plan that is tailored to you and your goals. Your 90-Day Action Plan is the roadmap to your success.

After 90 days you should review your roadmap and add new business goals. Having a thorough, well thought-out plan will help you successfully operate your business and will increase your self-confidence. You need more than desire to succeed in the business world, and your business plan will help you form a winning strategy that will take you through the ups and downs of running a business.

Creating a business plan

How do you actually create a business plan? Your business plan needs to include the possibility of setbacks and have enough flexibility to absorb inevitable business challenges. If you plan for contingencies, you won’t be thrown for a loop when problems occur. Business has always had cycles, and smart planners expect them. You survivors know that the cycle will bring better times again. You are prepared to wait out the tough times and be ready to take advantage of the good opportunities that will inevitably come.

This reminds me of a story I once heard about U.S. sailors during a World War II torpedo attack. Everyone thought that greater numbers and percentages of the younger sailors would survive the attack because they had more strength, energy, and vitality. However, much to everyone’s surprise, huge numbers of older sailors survived days in the water, while the younger sailors died.

The intuitive expectation was that the younger men would be stronger and more able to endure the hardships. But the opposite happened. The greater percentage of survivors was the older men. Further investigation revealed they owed their survival to experience. They had overcome adversity before, and had more hope they could defeat the odds. They had a better idea of what they had to do to survive, and planned accordingly. Your business plan can give you the same kind of advantage so that you can survive adversity.

You would not try to drive around a new city without a map and hope to arrive at your destination by luck. Any endeavor that requires effort requires some planning to be successful. If you have no business plan you will be floundering around aimlessly. You will never reach your goals.

Your business plan will help you make a lot more money. There was a study of Harvard MBA graduates in 1979. The interviewers asked the graduates about their goals. The results are astounding. The researchers found that a whopping 84% of the grads had no specific goals. These folks had the lowest income when compared with the rest of their cohort.

Another 13% of the graduates had goals, but they weren’t written goals. Compared to the grads with no goals, these students made almost double the income. The final 3% of grads is most interesting and significant part of this study. These are the grads that had written goals. Their income was ten times as much as the other 97% of the graduates combined. This study clearly demonstrates how important written goals are to your overall success.

I’m sure that if there were a study of successful business people, it would find that the majority of them had a business plan and that they followed that plan. Are you considering starting your own business?

Well I am here to tell you what you need to do to begin, and what rules to follow to make your business a success.

It doesn’t matter if you open a store in a nearby bazaar, or even rent an office from a big building… or even if you start an online business.

The first thing you have to make sure you do before anything, is set RULES for yourself. Even if you are your only employee.

A business simply will NOT work without rules, regulations, and schedules to follow, not matter who the owner is.

People who do not follow some type of rule for their business are likely to forget things, eventually you will make yourself look bad to the ONLY customers that you have.

The same way that you find big companies have regulations to follow, you must also do so for your company.

Make yourself a great plan, rules and regulations to follow. It may be silly if it’s just you, but eventually you will grow and you will see that this will only help make you look professional before your current clients.

Something else that people do that tend to hurt their business more than help, is become untidy.

What is the solution? Make sure you keep records of EVERYTHING you do. Even of your one time customers, they might call back 3 months from now and want a copy of the invoice again. IF you don’t do this, then you’ll be a big mess and when you get more and more customers, it will not be a pretty story.

Although this may seem as a big “duh” kind of article, as a business woman who owns her own garbage disposal company in Dallas, I see this happen time and again.

I have grown up in this business environment, and I know that these are some of the key things to make your business a success. Do not take these little steps for granted!

One more thing you should do is create a website and make sure it’s properly optimized. You don’t want to be limited to your physical location.

Remember that the world is really big out there, and if you can reach the same amount of people online that you do in your physical location, then you’ll be making twice as much.

Try and reach out to a different environment, people who come online and find your website, probably found it because they were looking for what you have to offer.

So consider marketing your website online, it is not so expensive to do so.

Another thing that every business should do is have business cards printed with their information on them. No matter how small your company is, every customer should leave with a business card in their hand.

These are the steps to a successful business, no matter where you are. If you do this you will be on your way to making a good name and reputation for your company.

Proving Obstacles Can’t Hold You Back

It doesn’t matter what level of success you’ve achieved, failure will come walking to your door anytime you start to hold back. If you don’t put your heart and soul into something, failure will follow. To experience a new level of life, try this exercise to help you learn not to hold back:

1. What in the past have you wanted to achieve, made a couple steps toward it and then, pulled back? It is in this area or thing that will show you are not putting your heart and spirit into all the way. You could succeed in this area if you would allow yourself to stop holding back.

2. What would happen if you did not hold back? What if you went all the way for this goal or desire? Write a brief statement (3-4 paragraphs) about what would happen if you didn’t hold back.

3. Write a list of three things which are in your way of achieving this desire.

4. Write three action steps toward your desire that you could accomplish right now.

5. Make a commitment to do at least do these three things. No more and no less-just these three things.

Observe what happens to the obstacles that were in your way. Sometimes they will diminish or change. Sometimes they will completely eliminate themselves. These obstacles are replaced with other seemingly impossible and impassable things.

Once you experience the “changing of your obstacles” from this expercise, you will certainly come to realize two things:

1. Problems, obstacles, and challenges will always be in the way of your desires.
2. If you continue to give it your all and don’t hold back, obstacles will change, diminish, or disappear on the way to accomplishing your desires.

This is the same for all successful people. Our success grew bigger and bigger because we faced our challenges, obstacles, and insurmountable odds while upgrading our lives to the next level.

One of my personal sayings that I share with my audiences is, “The level of success for any person is directly proportional to that individual’s level of courage.” Please remember that courage does not relate to a lack of fear, but to doing things regardless of fear. You are giving your all and not holding back.

Amelia Earhart was the first pilot to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean. She proudly stated, “The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.”

Do not hold back with your dreams or in your life. Don’t hold back at all and see what happens. The level of success and new power you will rapidly achieve will amaze you.

6 Easy Steps to a Positive Attitude

A positive attitude allows us to focus on our strengths and achievements, instead of allowing negative thinking to stop us in our tracks, when it comes to making and maintaining progress as an online entrepreneur.

By following these 6 simple steps, you will be able to control your thoughts and emotions to lead you to unlimited potential and maintain your positive attitude.

1. Take Care Of Yourself. Make sure you eat well, rest well and exercise. You want to make sure you do this on a regular basis, at least once a week. (Exercise, that is!)

2. Don’t Forget What You’ve Already Got. When you remind yourself of the things that are good in your life, however small or insignificant you think they are, it makes a difference in maintaining positive attitude and starts to attract bigger and better things to you. Just pause for a minute every day to remind yourself of what you have got.

3. Believe in YOU. Wanting acceptance from other people around us is a natural thing to do. Whether it is through nervousness or fear of failure, it comes down to a lack of belief in your self. So don’t worry, because that fear is usually false.

So never mind what other people think or say. Never let anyone turn you off track and away from your goals if you know yourself that you are certain of your decision.

4. Be careful how you talk and think. What I mean by this is that our thoughts are often affected by the words we choose to use. Keeping a positive attitude will be much easier if you are positive in how you phrase things. Don’t say things like you “can’t do it” or “I’ll never reach that goal.”

Words like these will have a negative effect on how you think and feel. So start to change the words you use. So when facing a challenge, it’s not that you can’t do it, it’s more a case of you can’t do it YET.

5. Be Aware of Negative Thoughts. If you have a moment in struggling with maintaining positive attitude and negative thoughts start to creep in, be aware of what is happening. If you are aware of something, you can control it. When you notice yourself having a negative thought, recognize it for what it is, make the choice to not let it affect you, let it go and move on.

6. Don’t Think About It, Do It. Many people experience the ‘paralysis of analysis’. This is the result of constantly planning what you are going to do without ever putting those plans into action. Plans can always change along the way so once you have the basics of a plan, act on it. You can always adapt and change how you are going about something along the way. Always keep going forwards. If you are doing nothing, you are going backwards.

Keep these 6 steps in mind and use them as a foundation for maintaining positive attitude in order to become a successful entrepreneur.

How Webinars Can Increase Your Profits

Webinars have been known to be one of the most effective ways of making money online. Apart from this, they can be used for just about any business. However, I usually meet a few people that makes excuses by saying how a webinar will not work for them. I like to ask them, “Do you think generating income is for you?” If they say yes, then I reply by saying that I can answer any of their objections. Some of the more common excuses I hear are:

1) Life is just too hectic right now. Many people I know say they do not have the time to learn how to do webinars. Even though there are 24 hours in each day, our lives can feel booked with schedules, obligations, and a list of other commitments. Despite the hassle of a busy life, learning how to do webinars is a worth-while venture. The knowledge that you gain from the techniques involved will be used to prepare you for bigger things. I know, however, that some of us really do not have the time to learn something new. If this is true of you, then there are two options: have someone learn the information and then explain it to you, or hire someone to do it all for you.

2)Too many other projects on my plate. There is a high possibility that you are not spending time with the right people, so you have too much happening within your business. What I mean is that you are likely working with people who are “non-qualified.” These are people who are not really interested in your product and may or may not ever buy from you. One way of qualifying people is by using a webinar. Once they indicate their interest by raising their hands to be a part of your webinar, you can use this as a door to give them the information they need. In a sense, you are pre-selling them, and after that you will have qualified people. You will find that you will not be so busy anymore, or better yet you will be busy with the right people.

3) I do not like dealing with people face to face. Webinars remove the overall concern with this issue. A camera is not set directly in front of me when I am doing a webinar. To be frank, I use a phone when I conduct my webinars, and that is exactly what the experience can be compared to: talking on a phone. The PowerPoint slides that I prepare are used as a guide to help me remember and present my ideas clearly to those who are listening. If you are shy about talking in front of people, you will see that with PowerPoint slides there is really nothing to worry about. Once you can talk clearly through a telephone and can present yourself using PowerPoint slides, then you are ready to start. You will not need to know each sentence line for line before you do the presentation. You are also not tying to win an award for speaker of the year. Once you understand all that has to be done, you may even find the experience to be relaxing and enjoyable.

If you have been using these objections to steer clear of webinars, then stop and think if it is worth going on making excuses. I will not say you will make a six-figure income with webinars alone, but I can say that I saw my profits take off when I learned how to use webinars. They are simply extraordinary new tools for any businessman or woman.

If you are just starting out with an internet business marketing research is required at all the stages and the process needs to be methodical and systematic. So systematic planning is in the procedures at each stage and need to be methodologically strong, well organized, and, and well planned in advance. Marketing research uses the scientific method in that data are collected and analyzed to test prior notions or hypotheses.the underlying principles and rules of organization of a philosophical system

Because marketing research is objective your research needs to provide accurate information that reflects a true state of affairs. It should be conducted honorably. While research is always influenced by the researcher’s research philosophy, it should be free from the personal or political biases of the researcher or the management. Research which is motivated by personal or political gain involves a breach of professional standards. The motto of every researcher should be, “Research it and tell the truth.” The objective nature of marketing research underscores the importance of ethical considerations.

Research involves the identification, collection, analysis, and circulation of information. Each phase of this process is important. You need to identify or define the marketing research problem or opportunity and then determine what information is needed. All of the information and recommendations are then provided in a format that allows the information to be used for management decision making and to be used directly to check the flow of your web site traffic. It should be emphasized that marketing research is conducted to assist management in decision making and is not: a means or an end in itself.

* Qualitative marketing research - generally used for exploratory purposes - examples include focus groups, in-depth interviews, and projective techniques * Quantitative marketing research - generally used to draw conclusions - tests uses random sampling techniques so as to infer from the sample to the population - examples include surveys and questionnaires. * Ethnographic studies -, the researcher observes social phenomena in their natural setting - examples include product-use analysis and computer cookie traces. * Experimental techniques -, the researcher creates a artificial environment as a control to try to control spurious factors, then manipulates at least one of the variables - examples include purchase laboratories and test markets

Research designs or systems are often used more by researchers. You may start with research to get background information, then conduct a focus group. Also you could do a full nation-wide survey in order to retrieve specific information for your client. Marketing information is observing the environment of your location and the competitions location. Small scale surveys and focus groups are low cost ways to gather information from existing and potential customers. Most secondary data (statistics, demographics, etc.) is available to the public in libraries or on the internet and can be easily accessed by small business owners.

You need to provide primary and or secondary data (if needed). Also analyzing the Macro & Micro Economic data (e.g. Supply & Demand, Price change, growth, Sales by sector/industries,interest rate, number of investment/ divestment are all necessary. Checking the marketing mix conceptions is next which are: Place, Price, Product,Promotion, People, Process, Physical Evidence and Political & social situations to analyze global market situation. Analyzing the market trends, growth, market size, market share, market competition, drivers of customers loyalty and satisfaction, brand perception, satisfaction levels, and current competitor-channel relationship analysis.

You need to determine your market segment, target, forecast and market position. Formulating the market strategy and investigating the possibility of partnership/ collaboration analysis of potential partners, evaluating business partnership. Combine the analysis with the SME’s business plan/ business model analysis, Business description, Business process, Business strategy, Revenue model, Business expansion, Return of Investment, Financial analysis Company History, Financial assumption, Cost/Benefit Analysis, Projected profit & Loss, Cashflow, Balance sheet & business Ratio,etc in order to get the right information for your business.

All of these different things used for marketing take a lot of time out of your work day. Therefore it would be best to find a system or program that will help your with this part of the marketing business.
